HOW TO BOOST CONCENTRATION

ARE YOU ABLE TO CONCENTRATE ?


In a world of unprecedented levels of digital connectivity it is increasingly difficult to truly concentrate and complete the task in hand.


Here are five tips that will help you find deeper levels of concentration. Yes they are simple and it would be easy to dismiss them, but the million dollar question is are you doing them?


1. CONTROL DISTRACTIONS - Turn off alerts and notifications. Have you ever listed all the sources for alerts you have on your phone? There will likely be your email, text, WhatsApp, social media platforms, health apps etc. Without silencing these

alerts you will be in a permanent state of distraction.


2. CREATE YOUR IDEAL WORK ENVIRONMENT - We all have different needs in this area. Some of us need silence others like to be in the hustle and bustle of open plan offices or coffee shops. Take the time to establish what you need and strive to create it.


3. REGULAR BREAKS - Make the effort to step away from the computer screen, stretch, hydrate, move. Even a couple of minutes will yield results. Change your environment with a walking meeting or walking while you make a phone call.


4. CLARITY OF PRIORITY - All tasks are not created equal. It is important to reduce the overwhelm of an enormous 'To Do List' and focus on the handful of key priorities. Narrowing that focus enhances concentration.


5. ACCOUNTABILITY - This might occur naturally, i.e.. your boss asks for a report by a set date. However you may need to create it yourself. Create a deadline and voluntarily verbalise it to colleagues, clients or your boss- "I will have an answer/price/report with you by date X." This level of accountability drives far deeper levels of concentration as you strive to deliver on your word.
